Mission, Vision, & Values

Our Mission is to be A Church For All People

We are committed to:

Open minds and open hearts fearless of the differences between us and committed to the common path that is our as followers of Jesus. We are open to new ways and love our traditions. We celebrate the familiar and foreign as signs of the Spirit calling us to the larger life of God.

Welcoming all people who enter our doors, greeting them warmly, and easing their transition into church. Communion and our hospitality are open to all, and we communicate that clearly at every liturgy, publicly and personally. Let there be no barrier to our invitation to all. Our buildings and grounds, our signs and our advertising, our worship and are warm welcome communicate the radical hospitality of the gospel.

The care and nurture of our members, extending faithful pastoral care to all parishioners, particularly to the aged and shut in, the disadvantaged and ostracized, the sick and the dying, and those in any need or trouble. Our care is the work of our whole faith community, each active in our own ways, utilizing our own gifts to heal and strengthen one another in our common life.

Our relationships with one another and the living to the dead. As the current inhabitants of this holy place, we honor its enduring traditions and welcome the Holy Spirit’s call to be the church of Jesus Christ in our time, open to the new life that God would have for us.

Worship centered on God that inspires, awakens, stirs, renews, stretches and challenges us in our lives of faith. We come in joy to meet our God! We appreciate enough familiarity in music and liturgy to allow our hearts to sing, yet sufficient innovation to keep our song alive. We value those who make music for our worship and lead us in song, both ancient and modern. We value the broad participation of lay people, in addition to clergy, as leaders in our liturgy.

Our young people and look for ways intentionally to include them as the full members that they are. We strive for a vital church school where our children are safe and loved, and gathered together by lively and compassionate leaders so that they may be open to the Spirit of God teaching and leading them as children of God. We believe all parishioners have a role in supporting, shaping, and befriending our young people as fellow members of the body of Christ, and of our role in joining parents’ as active participants in the spiritual formation of our children. We commit parish resources of time, energy, money, humor and joy toward the very best formation of children and their full involvement in our common life.

St. Luke’s physical plant—its buildings and grounds and sacred space—as tools and resources for the proclamation of the gospel, hospitality, and to invite all people to join in the mystery and wonder of life with God. As such, we want people of varying mobility to be able to access the church’s buildings and participate in its services. We treasure the beauty of these grounds and sacred space and value their continual upkeep and periodic renovation. We are faithful stewards of these, God’s gifts, and share them with others.

Faithful, responsible, and joyful stewardship of resources. With generous hearts, we pledge our personal resources for the work of God in this place. As stewards of our common resources, we use what we have been given—our personal resources given to the church and our common resources we in this place.

The values of respect, openness, and transparency in our life together — our relationships, committees and organizations, processes and procedures, finances and administration. In all we do, we strive to model and exhibit the new life to which we are called as a people reconciled in Christ.

Our belief that the gospel calls us to reach out in love to all people and particularly to those on the margins of our society. We value the ministries of our individual members and the ministry of the church that responds to those in need. We work together with our neighboring churches and the faith communities of REACH to serve the people of our community and to advocate for justice, peace and reconciliation. We seek to be faithful stewards of creation and responsibly use the Earth’s resources with gratitude and humility.

The healing of hearts, minds, bodies, and souls and to the wholeness that is ours in Christ. We hold one another up in prayer, especially when requested. Lay and clergy offer prayer and the laying on of hands for healing. We encourage a community of care and support for those suffering from addiction and strife, division and fear in the name of St. Luke the Physician and Jesus our healer.
